K-PREP Assessment Starts Today

Henderson County Schools 300HENDERSON, Ky. (5/6/13) – Henderson County Schools will be administering the Kentucky Performance Rating of Educational Progress (K-PREP) state assessment beginning today and concluding on Friday. This test will be given to students in grades three through eight in the areas of reading, math, science, social studies and on demand writing.

While in the past, schools were given a two week period to administer these tests, new state regulations allow for only five consecutive days to be designated as K-PREP test days. Make-up testing will occur in the afternoons after the regular testing session. Each school will be notifying parents as to specific schedules.

During this end of year testing, Henderson County Schools ask that parents and community members encourage our students and provide positive support.

Tips for a successful testing experience include:
–Students should be present each day since it is much less stressful for students to test with the regular class than individually during a make-up session. If possible, please schedule doctor/dental appointments during the late afternoon hours.

–Limit nighttime extra-curricular activities and outings to allow for a good night’s rest.

–Parents should provide a calm, stress-free environment each morning as your child gets ready for school. Get up in plenty of time to avoid morning rush and anxiety.

–Provide a nutritious breakfast.

–Have the student dress comfortably.

–Most importantly, express confidence in the child’s ability to do his or her best.
