UK Women’s Golf Travels to Hoover for SEC Championship

uk golf women 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (4/17/14) — The University of Kentucky women’s golf team begins postseason play this weekend with a trip to Hoover, Ala., for the SEC Championship.

The three-day, 54-hole tournament begins Friday, April 18 and wraps up Sunday, April 20 at the Greystone Golf and Country Club.

The Wildcats are coming off a seventh place finish at the Rebel Intercollegiate, where UK posted a team score of 19-over par, 883. Freshman Haley Mills recorded her fourth top 20 finish of the season by tying for 16th with a four-over par, 220. Sophomore Sarah Harris just missed a top 20 placing after tying for 25th with a score of 6-over par, 222.

Breed leads the team with a season scoring average of 73.67 and two top 10 finishes. Mills ranks second with a 73.75 scoring average and two top 10 finishes as well. As a team, Kentucky has four top five finishes through eight tournaments.

About the SEC Championship

Alabama returns to Greystone as the defending SEC Champions after winning the 2013 event by 14 strokes. UK’s Sarah Harris was the individual runner-up with a score of 9-over par, 225. Liz Breed also finished in the top 10 by tying for sixth at 11-over par, 227. As a team, the Wildcats placed fifth at the 2013 SEC Championship. Eighteen holes will be played Friday through Sunday, with fixed tee times on holes No. 1 and No. 10 starting 9 a.m. ET each day. The Greystone Course will feature a par-71, 6,037-yard setup.

All 14 SEC teams will be in action over the weekend with seven of the teams ranked in the top 25, including No. 4 Arkansas, No. 6 South Carolina, No. 7 Alabama, No. 13 Vanderbilt, No. 16 LSU, No. 19 Florida and No. 22 Auburn.

“I can't believe it's time to head back to Birmingham for the SEC Championship this week,” said Kentucky head coach Golda Johansson Borst. “This spring has really flown by and we have learned a lot during our regular season events that has helped us prepare for the championship. I know the girls are ready to have some fun and to play some smart aggressive golf this weekend.”

Following the SEC Championship, UK will await to find out where they are headed for the NCAA Regionals, which are held May 8 - 10.
