WCHS Sports Awards

jesportsWEBSTER COUNTY, Ky. (5/22/13) - Webster County High School held its annual Sports Awards Banquet, honoring athletes of all sports for the 2012-13 seasons.

Iron Athlete Award
With the demand of multi-sport athletes at WCHS, the Iron Athlete Award is to encourage those student athletes to pursue multiple sports. This program is designed to recognize all of our three sport athletes (or more) in the school at the end of each year; (golf, soccer, football, cross country (XC), volleyball, basketball, cheer (football and basketball), dance, baseball, softball, track, tennis). Each winner will receive an Iron Athlete T-shirt along with a certificate. These athletes compete all year long as well as maintain their academic commitment to success.

KHSAA all state academic and honorable mention awards
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association began it Academic All State program in 1985. Each year, the program recognizes the achievements of more than 10,000 student athletes across the state. Webster County High School is proud to recognize the accomplishments of its student body, both in athletic competition and in the classroom.
We are proud to announce that a 99 of participants in interscholastic athletics for the 2012-13 season have been names PNC/KHSAA All State honorees by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association.
45 student-athletes received First Team Academic All State Honors. To achieve the honor, an athlete must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.75 up to and including their sports season.
54 student athletes representing Webster County High School received Honorable Mention Academic All State honors. To achieve the honor, an athlete must maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 up to and including their sports season.
We would also like to recognize our TEAM GPA awards; each team’s GPA is calculated based on team member’s individual GPA’s for the 1st 3 9 weeks grades that are posted.

Bronze Team: any team with a team GPA of 3.00-3.24:
Boys basketball, Volleyball, Cheerleading, Soccer, Boys Track.

Silver Team: any team with a team GPA of 3.25-3.49:
Boys golf, Baseball, Boys Cross Country, Girls Track.

Gold Team: any team with a team GPA of 3.50-4.00:
Girls Basketball, Girls Tennis, Girls Golf, Softball, Dance, Girls Cross Country

Highest male and female team GPA award
Boys Cross Country and girls Golf

Milestone Awards
Our milestone awards are given to individual student athletes and teams that have accomplished milestones this season and/or career. Several athletes have set personal best and school records as well as teams reaching heights that have not been obtain before in school history.
Cassidy Thomas—2nd place finish in All A Classic Golf Regional and state qualifier
Trevis Bell—3rd place finish in All A classic Golf Regional and state qualifier
Girls Basketball Team—All A Classic Regional Champions
Lauren Grant—Top 25 in state in scoring for the last 2 years, 2nd team all-region. Broke personal record – scored 6 goals in a single game. Has scored over 100 goals while playing for the Lady Trojans. (Side Note: Has played every position successfully – Forward, Midfield, Fullback, Goalie and still scored over 100 goals)
Iszack Whitsell-—Cross Country--Finished 2nd overall in Region 1, 2A meet and finished 4th overall in XC KHSAA State Meet. XC--1st Team All-State Award. Indoor Track--Finished 3rd in the 3000 meter run at the Mason Dixon Indoor State Meet
Baseball team—All A Region Champions
Regional track winners-—Raven Baxter, 100 and 200. Iszack Whitsell, 1600 and 3200. Darrian McNary, Long jump. 4x800 relay team

Assistant Coach of the Year
This award is given to the assistant coach who is selected by the selection committee based on their head coach’s nomination and has exuberated characteristics who excel in community service, commitment to the student-athlete and player development and coaching success.
Josh Steele
Josh had to coach two varsity games due to Coach McCalister’s illness. His knowledge of the game and his ability to communicate with players is second to none. He is an amazing role model for the kids and a person that can be looked up to by not just our players, but our parents and community as well.

Head Coach of the Year
This award is given to the head coach who is voted on his peers as having the most successful year both on and off court/field. Each of our coaches are under paid and do not receive the recognition and rewards they deserve.
Parker McCalister
Coach McCalister led his Lady Trojans to a 23-6 record which included an all A regional title and elite 8 finish in the all a state championship game. Coach McCalister was also named the 2nd region coaches association coach of the year and the KABC 2nd region coach of the year.

Female Athlete of the Year
Kolbi Edens
Kolbi played golf, basketball and softball; received scholarship to Oakland City University for golf and basketball.
“Kolbi is an outstanding athlete, but she is a much better person, one of the finest young people that I have been around in education. She is an outstanding leader and example for all the students at WCHS”, noted Coach McCalister.

Male Athlete of the Year
Logan Prow
Logan played basketball and baseball; 12-13 boys basketball MVP and defensive player of the year. Also top Trojan award winner by leading the team in overall statistics. All district in basketball for 2013. “Logan has helped provide leadership for both the boys basketball and baseball teams during his senior year. He earned co-MVP honors for the basketball team while leading the team to a 19-14 record. Logan was second on the team in just about every statistical category that you could think of: 11.5 ppg, 4 rpg, 2.5 apg, 78.5%ft. all of these stats ranked him 2nd on the team behind different players. Logan also helped his baseball team win the all a regional championship, the first in school history for the baseball program. Logan is very soft spoken at WCHS that leads by example on and off the court and field with excellent work habits. During his 4 years at WCHS, he has helped with various fundraisers and community projects such as WCHS cleanup day, Mr. WCHS beauty pageant and Dr. Seuss read aloud to Dixon elementary students. At this time, Logan has chosen to attend Murray state to continue his academic career.” Coach Newton
