KENTUCKY (11/12/12) – In case you haven't noticed already, the world around us is changing at such a drastic rate that it makes it hard to keep up with the issues of the day.
The Christian community faces a difficult road ahead, as we see things such as abortion, gay marriage and the removal of God from our society becoming more prominent. The majority of Christians are shaking their heads in disgust and wondering what has happened to our moral values and who is at blame for these atrocities. If there is one thing that we are good at it this day and time, it is finger pointing. We blame the non-typical relationship, we blame the abortionists, we blame the government and we blame Satan. I am almost certain I will get some finger pointing and criticism for what I am about to say! The blame for all the atrocities we see taking place all around us is solely placed on the church, and only the church!
Understand that the voice of the church is not what it used to be, it has become desiccated, dried out and lacking any significant power to keep the moral values of our Nation intact. We must face the facts that we are living in a post-Christian era, culture has changed and whether you say it is Biblical or it is the end-times is irrelevant to the point I am trying to get across. Those who are head of our Nation used to seek guidance, counsel and prayer from the Christian community but not anymore. Think about it, why would the heads of our Nation seek guidance or counsel on the issues of the day when the church is just as divided as the Nation on those same issues?
We see the demonization taking place in our Nation between Liberals and Conservatives, that same demonization is taking place in the church. For example; research done by The Barna Group states that the majority of people between the ages of 16-29 believe the attitude of church is the driving force behind a negative image of the Christian faith. Between the ages of 16-29-year-olds, 91% say that the church has an anti-gay image, 87% say that the church is judgmental, and 85% says that the church is hypocritical. Some churches believe we are in an all-out culture war and that the anti-gay sentiments will cause the church to lose an entire generation. Basically, the church is divided on whether to hold true to moral beliefs or relent due to changing culture. Sadly we are using useless justifications for the reason behind our ideology, sometimes perverting the scripture to support our agenda.
Romans 5:20-21 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (NKJV)
Please understand I am not attacking churches or singling out one certain denomination. I am talking about the church as a whole, the body of Christ. Making church more secular in its beliefs, the division we are seeing, and the ideology are very serious issues we now face. It is a bad thing that 87% of people within a certain age group look at Christians as judgmental, it tells the sad truth that we have not done our job in teaching, as there is a clear difference in judging and correction. If we say anything about gay marriage, stem cell research, abortion or such, we are automatically hypocritical, judgmental bigots and full of hate. Then, some tailor their beliefs and tone down correction and open rebuke and call it love, which is also a direct violation of the scripture.
The truth of the matter is that the church cannot set aside denominational differences long enough to agree on anything. That is why the world around us continues on the path that threatens moral values as a whole. We are either “once saved always saved” or you can lose your salvation, either speaking in tongues is still active in the church or it is not, either have music or no music, either full submersion baptisms or sprinkling, either healing takes place or it died out with the apostles, either a pre-tribulation rapture or a mid or post tribulation rapture.
The church is in a very serious condition that really needs to be fixed as soon as possible. Could you imagine if all the Bible-believing, God-fearing churches united for one cause and pursued that one cause until the end? It would be one of the most powerful acts that the world has seen since Jesus walked the earth in the flesh. After all, we are the body of Christ, and He said these things will you do and more. I believe that can only happen when the church can unite. Being inundated with all the secular ideas, the illusory superiority attitude and division has resulted in the body of Christ having amputated arms and legs leaving a lot of big mouths screaming different ideologies.
1 Corinthians 1:10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. (NKJV)
Let’s face it, the heat is turned up all around us and these are trying times. The scripture in Romans that said where sin abounded, grace abounded that much more. We have to, in these last days come together and be perfectly joined together in the same mind and judgment. If you defeat a weak enemy there is little honor, but if you defeat an enemy that is very strong, there is major honor. We see sin abounding day in and day out and it is time to bring honor to the kingdom of heaven by allowing grace to abound much more.
Look at it like this; the individual church is like a water glass with an ounce of water in it. When a big fire is burning the water evaporates and dries out when poured onto the fire. That church then has nothing to give, no power in its desiccated voice, until it can refill its small glass which will soon be empty again. If the body of Christ would take all their glasses of the small amount of water they possess and add it together in one big container then a that fire will be quenched. We have to stop having the mindset of, we're fighting an army that outnumbers us a million to one so it's best to give up. Instead, we have to join together and make something happen. It is what we are commissioned to do and the souls of the lost depend on it.
