flag half mastFRANKFORT, Ky. (2/21/14) – Governor Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Saturday, Feb. 22 in honor of a Kentucky soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Spc. Christopher A. Landis, 27, of Independence, Ky., died Feb. 10, on Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan, from wounds received when the enemy attacked his dismounted patrol with a rocket propelled grenade in Kapisa Province, Afghanistan.

He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, N.C.

Services for Spc. Landis are on Feb. 22 and details are private at the request of the family.

Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
