bird yellow 300AURORA, Ky. (3/2/14) – Dust off those binoculars and get your bird books out for a spring weekend of bird-watching at three Kentucky State Parks, Apr. 5-6.

Author Joe LaFleur will lead three bird-watching walks at Kenlake, Lake Barkley and Pennyrile Forest state resort parks. LaFleur is the author of bird-watching DVDs and has been collecting video and sounds of birds for 22 years.

The walks and programs are free. Participants should be ages 10 and older and should bring binoculars and good walking shoes.

Kenlake State Resort Park, Aurora

April 5, Bird Walk and Program
9-10 a.m.: Join LaFleur for a free guided bird walk. The walk features hands-on identification of resident and migrant birds in habitats like woodlands, shrubby areas, fields and lake. Beginners are welcome. Meet at the park lobby.

10-10:30 a.m.: LaFleur will provide a free audiovisual program about common spring migrant birds. The program will help you identify birds by sight and sound and will also review preferred habitats where each species is likely to be encountered. Meet at the park lobby.

Lake Barkley State Resort Park, Cadiz

April 5, Bird Program and Walk
3:30-4 p.m.: LaFleur will provide a free audiovisual program about common spring migrant birds. The program will help you identify birds by sight and sound and will also review preferred habitats where each species is likely to be encountered. Meet at recreation room in the lodge.

4-5 p.m.: Join LaFleur for a free guided bird walk. The walk features hands-on identification of resident and migrant birds in habitats like lake and woodland. Beginners are welcome. Meet at the deck outside of the recreation room in the lodge.

Pennyrile Forest State Resort Park, Dawson Springs

April 6, Bird Walk and Program
9-10 a.m.: Join LaFleur for a free guided bird walk along Clifty Creek. The walk features hands-on identification of resident and migrant birds in habitats like woodlands, shrubby areas, riparian areas, creek and lake. Beginners are welcome. Meet at the lodge lobby.
 
10-10:30 a.m.: LaFleur will provide a free audiovisual program about common spring migrant birds. The program will help you identify birds by sight and sound and will also review preferred habitats where each species is likely to be encountered. Meet at the private dining room in the lodge.
