My Kentucky Roads: Trendy Treasures

kyroadsleadphoto2

KENTUCKY (3/3/14) — Hidden in an assembled collection of late 19th century historic buildings in Hanson, resides a small family owned business called Trendy Treasures.

kyroadstvs“The name actually came from my sister,” said owner Nikki Stevens. “She wrote out a long list of names and this one stood out the most to me.”

Stevens first opened her doors last August in the building next to the one she is located in now, but when the opportunity arose, she moved.

“In October, shortly after I opened in August, I moved into this building,” said Stevens. “I just loved this space. It was exactly what I was looking for.”

Stevens has been collecting what she likes to call “junk” since she was a child, which has been a hobby of hers that she shared with her dad growing up.

“I have collected a lot of stuff over the years, forever it seems,” said Stevens. “I can be a hoarder, but not like the ones you see on television. My dad and I used to spend a lot of time at the flea markets and sometimes we would sell some of the items we bought.”

Stevens said she has a hard time parting with some of the items she finds, but is happy to share her treasures with people who will give them a good home. She also specializes in re-purposed furniture, antiques, home décor and vintage gifts.

“We also sell vendor items here, but not your regular flea market type of stuff,” said Stevens. “We look for more vintage pieces..."

“We also sell vendor items here, but not your regular flea market type of stuff,” said Stevens. “We look for more vintage pieces, like-new clothing, jewelry, soaps and re-purposed items. We also rent the upstairs out for baby and wedding showers, business meetings, birthday parties, book signings and more.”

Stevens and her “right-hand woman,” Joan Denton, have both been trained in Reiki Healing and are looking to offer this service with the community. As an adjunct to Reiki Healing, Stevenson is also adding Doterra essential oils to the healing process.

“Reiki is an alternative way of healing,” said Denton. “It is a Japanese technique that you use moving energy to help heal. All illness is, is a stuck energy and Reiki is a way to move that stuck energy.”

Stevenson will be offering a class at the end of March for Doterra and believes it is a special service to be offered since there isn’t anything like it in this part of western Kentucky.

“There will be a lady from Texas coming in to help,” said Stevens. “You will be able to get your hand scanned to see what type of oil is best for you.”

Trendy Treasures is located on 21 Sunset Road Hanson, Ky.
