Summer Reading Gives Kentucky Children a Chance to Win $1,000 for College

kid-readingFRANKFORT, Ky. (6/3/14) — The Kentucky Education Savings Plan Trust and the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives announced today the launch of Fizz Boom Save!, a special opportunity for students who participate in the 2014 Summer Reading Program at participating libraries across the state to win money for college.

Fizz Boom Save! encourages Kentucky children to participate in the Summer Reading Program at their local library and offers them a chance to win a $1,000 KESPT college savings plan account. Each winner’s local library will also receive $500 for future reading programs.

Fizz Boom Save! will award eight $1,000 KESPT 529 college savings accounts for Kentucky children age 18 or younger. Parents, grandparents and guardians can enter on behalf of a child by completing an entry form at their local library. Entries must be postmarked by August 15, 2014, and received by August 22, 2014.

Libraries across Kentucky offer a Summer Reading Program every year as part of the national Collaborative Summer Library Program – a consortium of states working together to provide high-quality summer reading program materials for children at the lowest cost possible for their public libraries.

“Our Summer Reading Programs have more than 100,000 children participating statewide every summer. We’re excited to offer Fizz Boom Save! as part of those programs because it encourages families to get involved at their local library and increases awareness about the importance of reading throughout the summer and saving for college early with KESPT,” said Heather Dieffenbach, children and youth consultant at Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives. “And the $500 for the winners’ local libraries will go a long way toward improving future reading programs.”

KESPT is the Commonwealth's official Section 529 College Savings Plan, which helps parents, grandparents, family and friends save for a loved one’s future college education with tax advantages.

It is administered by the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority and managed by TIAA-CREF Tuition Financing, Inc., a leader in managing Section 529 college savings plans. Visit kysaves.com for more information about the Plan or call toll free (877) 598-7878.

Fizz Boom Save! is sponsored by KESPT and KHEAA. No purchase necessary. Void where prohibited. Visit kysaves.com for official rules and prize details.
