Sebree Council Tables Water Ordinance

sebreecitycouncil blueWEBSTER COUNTY, KY (11/7/12) - Sebree City Council held a very short meeting Monday night, with only one item on the agenda. In the absence of Mayor Ron Todd, board members appointed board member Ozzie O’Nan Mayor Pro Tem.

The lone item on the agenda was the Second Reading of an ordinance that would amend the current Sebree water bill due date and cutoff date.

According to the proposed ordinance, water bills would be due on the tenth of the month, with a ten percent penalty being applied to late payments. It would also schedule water services to be turned off if the bill was not paid by the fifteenth.

“It would be my recommendation not to adopt this right away,” said City Attorney Dorin Luck. “I would like to have the chance to review every ordinance in the chapter on water and sewer to make sure there aren’t any conflicts.”

He told the board that through the years, as the city adopted ordinances, it can become unclear what the actual intent of the city might be.

“I would like to take a stab at rewriting this so that we can use it,” Luck said. “We’ll have a chapter and verse we can go to.”

The board voted to table the ordinance until the next board meeting, when Dorin Luck would present them with a rewritten version.

“Several people have said that we need lights down at the bridge because it's so dark,” board member Harold Orrick said.

Ozzie O’Nan said they would make a note to discuss it with Mayor Todd, and City Clerk Mary Thomas said she would check into whether all of the grant funds used for construction of the bridge had been exhausted.

With no other items of discussion, the board adjourned.
