WEBSTER COUNTY, Ky. (1/16/13) - It was a short meeting for the Webster County Fiscal Court Monday morning at the courthouse in Dixon.
After quickly approving the minutes, they moved on to old business. The court reported that the Carhartt Building sale had been finalized, and that the airport’s purchase of land adjacent to its property, approved at the last meeting, was currently in the works.
During the road requests portion of the meeting there were several areas discussed. Magistrate Jerry ‘Poogy’ Brown reported that there was a culvert at Williams Road and Highway 56 that had been hit and was damaged.
Magistrate Chad Townsend reported that he had driven down to Tapp Lane, which needed some cleanup.
“We need to call CSX about the main crossing on 56 at Sebree,” said Brown.
The railroad crossing, which has also been discussed at Sebree City Council meetings, has caused many problems in downtown Sebree. Vehicles have been observed swerving onto the shoulder and even into oncoming traffic to avoid the rough crossing.
“Probably the only way to get it done would be to contact (Congressman) Ed Whitfield,” Poogy said.
There were several personnel issues to be handled. Wes Watson and Roger George were made full time at Webster County Solid Waste. Kelly Townsend was hired as part time at Webster County 911 and Diana Morgan moved from full time to part time. At the Webster County jail, Shannon Green and Billy Morgan were approved for part time positions.
Webster County Clerk Valerie Franklin Newell presented the court with three reports. The first was a year end budget report for the 2012 year.
The second item was the presentation of the 2013 Clerk’s Budget. The total presented for the year was $2,852,100.
The 2012 Clerk’s Fee Settlement total for 2012 was $3,032,566.38.
Webster County Jailer Terry Elder reported that the final day for their current food service provider would be February 8, 2013.
