TRAFFIC ALERT – Motorists Advised to be Alert

mowing trans 300FRANKFORT, Ky. (10/9/13) – Motorists are asked to be on alert for mowing crews in coming weeks.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet crews and contractors are ramping up another round of mowing along highways across the region.

Above average rainfall has slowed the progress of mowing crews all summer, and spurred unusually rapid growth of roadside grasses. Highway crews normally get a few weeks break between mowing cycles, but this summer they’ve about been able to complete one mowing cycle just in time to start another round of mowing.

State highway mowing crews have worked pretty much continually without a break all summer. In addition to being hampered by heavy growth, crews often had to halt mowing due to muddy conditions along the right of way.

Contract crews have started the fall round of mowing along U.S. Highways, Interstates, and parkways.

On Monday, October 14th, a commercial mowing contractor will start on the Pennyrile Parkway in Christian County, working northward to Henderson before turning eastward on the Audubon Parkway.

Another contract mowing crew will begin on the Western Kentucky Parkway at the Ohio-Butler County line and work westward. This crew will then mow the Natcher Parkway before continuing westward on the WK.

A contract crew will be working U.S. Highways through Daviess, Ohio, Muhlenberg, Hopkins, and Webster counties.

State mowing crews will be working rural secondary highways all over the 11 counties of KYTC District 2.

Motorist are asked to use appropriate caution in mowing zones as operators have to maneuver their tractors and mowers across travel lanes from time to time. Mowing zones should be treated with the same level of caution as all other work zones were slow moving equipment and support vehicles are working in close proximity to traffic flow.

Timely traffic advisories for the 11 counties of KYTC Highway District 2 are available by going to www.facebook.com/kytcdistrict2. You do not have to be a Facebook member to access this page.
