More White Stuff Predicted for Friday Night

snowy road 2 300WESTERN KENTUCKY (2/7/14) ― Adding insult to injury, weather predictors are expecting another one to two inches of snow to fall on the crunchy mass of white already on the ground.

According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, there is a 70 percent chance of precipitation in the form of snow expected fall between 1 to 5 a.m. tonight. Temperatures will hover around 16 degrees.

The winter weather advisory issued by the NWS indicates this will be a dry snow, which should be easy to plow off roadways, according to Keith Todd, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman.

However, drier snow can create drifts that could pose travel dangers, said Todd.

Todd said Caldwell, Christian, Hopkins, McLean, Muhlenberg, Webster and Ohio counties will have main crews on duty beginning at 11 p.m. tonight, which will be working through the night and into Saturday morning. Union, Henderson, Daviess and Hancock county highway crews will be on alert and
subject to being called in as the snow develops over the northern portion of the 11
county district.

For Saturday, a 20 percent chance of snow continues before 9 a.m. Temperatures will rise to the freezing point with a high near 32, and there will be mild south wind of around 5 mph. Saturday night should be mostly cloudy with a low around 22.

And, again on Sunday, snow chances continue. There's a 20 percent chance of snow during the day with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 33. For Sunday night,, there is a 40 percent chance of snow with a low of around 18 degrees.

Monday is looking up with partly sunny skies expected with a high near 27. For Monday night, a low of around 10 is expected.

Tuesday is predicted to be nearly identical to Monday with a high of 28 and a low of 18.

Wednesday brings another chance of snow with a high near 36 for the daytime and a slight chance of rain and snow for the evening. Skies should be mostly cloudy with a low of around 26.

Unless the weeklong prediction changes, Thursday brings a ray of hope for nicer weather. It should be partly sunny with a high near 40.
