yonts b 300FRANKFORT, Ky. (3/12/14) — Over $145,000 in state contracts and services for Muhlenberg, Christian, and Hopkins counties were approved last week by a state legislative oversight committee, State Rep. Brent Yonts reported today.

The largest funding item approved by the Government Contract Review Committee was $100,000 in federal money to widen six miles of rail trail along the abandoned Paducah and Louisville Railroad from 6 to 10 feet. Bridges, lighting, and enhancement to trailheads will also be part of the project, said Yonts, D-Greenville.

That funding will be administered by the Muhlenberg County Fiscal Court in Greenville.

Also approved by the committee, of which Yonts, D-Greenville, is a member and former chairman, were:

  • An additional $14,046 in state funds for career and technical education for Christian County Schools.

  • An additional $5,000 in coal severance funds for each of the following: Mortons Gap Fire Department for debt service on a fire truck; Earlington Fire Department for equipment; Hanson Fire Department for equipment; Charleston Fire Department for equipment; Manitou Fire Department for debt service on a purchased pumper truck.

  • An additional $604 in federal, state, and agency funds for family and social services, administered by Pennyrile Area Development District.

  • $5,675 in state funds paid to G. Herbert Pritchett of Madisonville for a commercial appraisal of a marina located in Spencer County, as part of a lawsuit filed in Spencer Circuit Court and an administrative appeal before the state Board of Tax Appeal.

  • Time extension to June 30, 2016 for a water project in the City of Hanson.

  • Time extension to June 30, 2016 for a water project in Muhlenberg County Water District #3.
