HOPKINS COUNTY, KY (7/24/12) – At approximately 8:45 this morning, emergency crews responded to reports of a single vehicle fatality accident on the Pennyrile Parkway at the Nortonville exit.
Responding crews included Kentucky State Police, Nortonville Southside EMS, South Hopkins Fire Department, Nortonville Fire Department, Medical Center Ambulance Service, PHI Air Medical, and Hopkins County Coroner.
According to reports, one victim was ejected from the vehicle, and one remained trapped inside at the time of the call.
When SurfKY News arrived on-scene at 9:00, one victim was observed bleeding from a head wound, resting on a guard rail, while firefighters worked to free another victim from the wreckage. A third victim had died from his injuries and lay covered adjacent to the vehicle.
PHI Helicopter transport arrived on-scene at 9:06, but the two survivors were transported by Medical Center Ambulance Service to RMC for evaluation.
Kentucky State Police Lieutenant Lonnie Bell advised that the deceased victim was not the driver but was not sure if he was the ejected passenger.
The accident appeared to have started about 100 yards from where the vehicle came to rest on its side in the median. The northbound SUV had veered out of control for reasons unknown, striking the guardrail directly under the overpass at the Nortonville exit.
The truck was laden with work tools, some of which were scattered on the roadway along with ceramic tiles.
The identity of the deceased is unknown at this time, as he was not carrying identification.
