TRAFFIC ALERT – Construction on WK Parkway and Pennyrile Parkway

trafficalert green_300WESTERN KY (4/15/12) – A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to step up the level of work along Interstate 69/Western Kentucky Parkway between Eddyville and the Pennyrile Parkway Interchange as part of ongoing improvements required to meet Interstate highway standards.

In addition to ongoing installation of new Interstate 69 signage, the contractor will be restricting traffic to one lane at two locations starting Monday, April 16, 2012.

Both eastbound and westbound traffic will be restricted to one lane along I-69/WK Pkwy in Caldwell County from the KY 91 Interchange to the KY 293 Interchange at Princeton starting Monday. All traffic will move to the right-hand or driving lane to allow median crossovers to be constructed. The crossover construction is for an eventual traffic shift to facilitate a lowering of the roadway to create additional clearance at the KY 91 Overpass and the KY 293 Overpass.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane along I-69/WK Pkwy at the Caldwell-Hopkins County line starting Monday. All traffic in the work zone will move to the left-hand or passing lane to allow barrier wall upgrades on the Tradewater River Bridge and an overflow bridge nearby.

Motorist should slow down and be alert for slowing and merging traffic as they approach these work zones.

Additionally, motorists are advised to be alert for sign crews working at various locations along this route.

These work zones are among several that will be required through the summer construction season as part of a $9.9 million project to bring the section of former parkway up to federal standards for interstate highways.
