Kentucky State Police Post 2 Trooper Honored

trooper ayersMADISONVILLE, KY (12/10/12) – On Wednesday, December 5, the 2012 Governor’s Impaired Driving Enforcement Awards ceremony was held at the Galt House Hotel and Suites in Louisville. The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS) honored 197 law enforcement officers from 164 agencies across the Commonwealth for their efforts to target impaired drivers.

Last year, Kentucky recorded more than 5,600 crashes related to drugs and alcohol, resulting in 150 deaths and more than 3,000 injuries.

Trooper Jeff Ayres from KSP Post 2 Madisonville was recognized at this ceremony for his outstanding job performance to remove impaired drivers from our roads. For the DUI enforcement period, which ran from October 1, 2011 through September 30, 2012, Tpr. Ayres arrested 55 impaired drivers. This is the second year in a row that Tpr. Ayres has received this award.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), 1 in 3 Americans will be impacted by a drunken driving crash in his or her lifetime.

Trooper Ayres is a native of Walnut Creek, California. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the United States Army. He retired from the military on August 31, 2007 and began his career with the KSP in September of 2007. He is currently assigned to Todd County.
