WKU Libraries Forgives Fines in Exchange for Food Donations

canned food 300BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (11/6/13) - “For every food item brought to Cravens fourth floor, we will forgive $1 of the student, faculty or staff’s fines up to $20,” said Paula Bowles, Library Public Services Circulation Assistant. “We look at it as a win-win for both the campus and those folks in need of assistance at this time of the year.”

WKU Libraries has collected hundreds of food items over the past few years and donated to local food pantries. “We are very pleased to offer some support for our campus community,” Bowles said.

Recommended foods to bring are canned fruits or vegetables, hearty soups like chili or beef stew, peanut butter, bagged beans, crackers, pastas and even microwavable foods. Refrigerated foods are not allowed since all the items are stored in a room temperature pantry.

Donations should be brought to Cravens Fourth Floor at the Circulation Desk to have fines forgiven. The food drive will end Nov. 26. For information, contact Paula Bowles at 270-745-6167.
