New Illicit Drug, ‘Gravel’ Making its Way to Tri-State

drug investigation 04 300KENTUCKY (2/25/14) — Still in the early stages, a new potent street drug called “Gravel” is making its way to the Tri-State area.

Gravel is a rock-like substance containing alpha-Pyrrolidinopentiophenone, which is a synthetic stimulant acting on the cardio vascular and nervous system.

Ingested the same way as bath salts, through smoking, snorting or injection, the alpha PVP contained in it has yet been seen in this region.

“I have heard of this drug from the news and from reading about it,” said Lt. Josh Mitchell. “As far as we know, it has not made it here yet.”

The combo of meth, Klonopin and bath salts, is highly addictive and can cause severe paranoia and in some cases, suicide.

It damages the brain, raises blood pressure, increases heart rate and can eat a person's skin from the inside out.

Law enforcement are still unsure where this drug is coming from.

However, there has been more than 20 incidents in Tennessee involving Gravel during the last six months.
