Baptist Health Paducah 300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (3/12/13) – Baptist Health Paducah’s large new family waiting room will open to the public on Monday, March 18.

The waiting room – designed to provide more comfort and privacy to families waiting for their loved ones in surgery – is part of a $17 million surgical expansion.

The new 3,660-square-foot waiting room is more than three times the size of the current surgery waiting room. It seats more than 85 people with two private consultation rooms, pod seating for family privacy, three patient tracking monitors, two pods with TVs, a coffee bar and restrooms.

A new staircase connects the main lobby to the second-floor waiting room.

It features a mural by Paducah artist Kijsa Housman depicting several generations of the hospital’s growth, while artwork by Bill Renzulli and Linda Ogden honors the continued support of the Carson-Myre Charitable Foundation and Ray Black & Son, Inc., to the foundation for Baptist Health Paducah.

This portion of the project follows last fall’s completion of four new operating rooms – for hybrid procedures, open-heart and da Vinci robotic surgery cases. Renovation of 11 existing surgical suites and the outpatient surgery area will complete the project by December 2014.

Baptist Health Paducah is a regional medical and referral center, serving about 200,000 patients a year from four states. With more than 1,700 employees and 240 physicians, it offers a full range of services, including cardiac and cancer care, diagnostic imaging, women’s and children’s services, surgery, emergency treatment, rehabilitation and more. It opened in 1953 as Western Baptist Hospital and recently changed its name, along with other facilities in Baptist Health, one of the largest not-for-profit healthcare systems in Kentucky.
