MADISONVILLE, KY (12/3/12) – At approximately 11:00 AM today, emergency crews responded to reports of a two-vehicle accident at the corner of Center and Scott Streets.
A tan Lexus and a silver Mustang collided at the intersection. The Lexus came to rest atop the Mustang, and the vehicles exited the roadway, striking a crosswalk signal on the southeast corner of the intersection.
The vehicles’ directions of travel were not immediately known, as Madisonville Police Department was on-scene sorting out the details of the incident.
When SurfKY News arrived on-scene, firefighters were extricating the female driver of the Lexus, who was fitted with a neck brace. The male passenger was also fitted with a neck brace and was awaiting extrication, as one firefighter attended to him from the rear seat of the vehicle.
Mechanical extrication was not needed, although it was necessary to break some of the window glass to remove the patients.
Major Eli of MFD said that both patients were transported as a precaution by Medical Center Ambulance Service to Baptist Health Hospital, with no chief complaints.
The female driver and lone occupant of the Mustang was out of the vehicle and appeared uninjured.
Madisonville Light Department and the State Highway Department were on-scene, assessing damage to the crosswalk signal as well as the traffic light, which was flashing yellow on Center Street and flashing red on Scott.
