Walk n_Wag_coverMADISONVILLE, KY (12/4/12) — The Hopkins County Humane Society is holding their Second Annual Jingle Bell 5K Wag & Walk this coming Saturday December 8th. Members of the community will be given the opportunity to bring their pets of any breed to participate as long as they are properly escorted, on a leash, and their behavior managed.

Participants are encouraged to dress their pet and/or themselves in festive outfits for pictures with Santa Claus, beginning at 7:00 AM before the race at 7:30. The relay will take place at the Madisonville Municipal Airport located on Highway 85.

Hopkins County Animal Control Officer, Charles Gentry, and Humane Society Board President Lee Corum gave SurfKY News details for the event. Interested participants may register at the gate for a $25 fee, which also includes an event t-shirt.

Steve Rickard will be donating his time and photography, taking pictures of participants with Santa at no charge to the Humane Society. The fee for participants and/or pets to have their pictures taken with Santa will be $10.

Those interested in participating may relay the 5K running or jogging and then wag your pet along for a one-mile walk or jog. All proceeds raised at the event, including the Santa picture fees, will go to the Hopkins County Humane Society to pay for medicines, vaccines, grooming supplies, food, and any other supplies needed to care for the animals.

The age brackets are separated by ages 16-and-under, 17-25, 26-34, 35-54, 55-64, and 65 and older. Corum stated that there was a great turnout for last year’s Wag & Walk and that the Board expects the same or better for this year.

For any additional information, contact Hopkins County Humane Society at (270) 821-8965.
