Large Fire Sweeps Through White Plains

White Plains_Fire_Dec_2012_coverWHITE PLAINS, KY (12/3/12) – At 1:25 PM today, Central Dispatch alerted White Plains Fire Department to what was described as a large field fire in the area of Richard Crick Road.

Since the original call, assistance from several other fire departments has been requested, and firefighters continue to battle the blaze. Scanner traffic indicates that Morton’s Gap, South Side, and St. Charles Fire Departments are among the agencies assisting on-scene with brush trucks and other mutual aid.

Witnesses calling-in to SurfKY News say that the fire continues to spread as of this writing at 3:30 PM, jumping, starting more fires, and spreading quickly.

One witness reports that the fire has burned through Whitfield Cemetary, just off of Red Hill Road, but that the headstones “weren’t too badly damaged.”

SurfKY News is headed to the scene to obtain more information and will provide updates as more details are available.
