Muhlenberg 4-H Wins Monsanto 'Everyone Achieves More Award'

no bullying teensMUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (2/11/14) – Bullying is an ever-growing problem in schools across America.

But members of the Muhlenberg County 4-H Cooperative Extension Service are fighting back.

Recently 4-H won the state's Monsanto "Together Everyone Achieves More Award", according to Mackenzie Pogue, the Muhlenberg County's 4H Youth Development Agent.

Pogue told SurfKY News how the Engaging Youth, Serving Community group is educating students through the Bullies Free Forever program.

"Bully Free Forever is a group of teens who go to various county schools and sow videos along with skits to teach about the consequences of bullying," said Pogue.

"The Muhlenberg 4-H has been increasing awareness regarding bullying among younger students, focusing on third graders. A combination of videos and discussions allow younger student to discuss bullying," Pogue said.

Pogue explained that the combination of videos and skits are presented in schools, and will also be shown in the Central City theater for the next year prior to features.

"Bullying is everywhere throughout the nation's school systems, and that's why we're excited that the principals in our area are so cooperative in allowing us to present the program," said Pogue.

Pogue noted the group has also partnered with Sheriff Curtis McGehee and his Junior Deputy program.

"The first presentation regarding dealing with bullying will be held March 4 at the Central City Elementary School," Pogue said. "Then we'll present the program March 25 at Greenville Elementary School from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m."

After the program teachers will discuss bulling with the students on an individual basis, according to Pogue.

Providing Positive Youth Development Experiences Engaging Youth, Serving Community (EYSC) is a program that partners students with adults.
