POWDERLY, Ky. (7/24/14) — Police, fire and Muhlenberg EMS units responded to a Hawkins Street residence in Powderly between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Thursday morning in response to a man being injured by gunshot.
Riley Garrett was hanging a gun in his home, when it discharged causing a bullet to strike him in the wrist area, according to a neighbor.
Garrett sought help from neighbors as evidenced by the blood on the front doors of two nearby homes. However, he had left the neighbors' homes before they responded to their doors.
Trena Law said she was in bed asleep, when she heard shouting at her front door. When she got to the door, Garrett was gone, and all she noticed was the blood on the ramp leading to her home, she said.
Ronnie Brooke told much the same story. Brooke said he was in the back of his home, when he heard yelling at the front door. Brooke was not dressed, and by the time he got to the door Garrett had left, he said.
Garrett was transported by ambulance to Muhlenberg Community Hospital. When SurfKY News contacted the hospital, a patient condition update was not yet available.
SurfKY will update this story when an official press report has been released.
