Local Church Steeple Being Replaced

steeple1 300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (9/27/13) – Workers detached a 2,000 pound limestone corner of The Church of Latter-Day Saints church steeple Friday morning on North Main in Madisonville.

The 52’ steeple was suffering deterioration and is being replaced.

Jon Wilson of Ricky Wilson Construction told SurfKY News that he hoped to finish demolition today. He is trying to salvage the limestone corners for later use. Charbon Bridge of Madisonville was providing the crane for the delicate removal of the larger pieces.

Workers sighed a bit of relief as the last of the larger pieces was lowered to a trailer. The remaining 12” x 12” corners are only six feet long and weigh 1,200 pounds.

The new steeple will take approximately one month to complete. The new structure will be built by Howell & Howell Construction, Louisville, KY. Eric Wilson (no relation to Jon) of Howell & Howell told SurfKY News that the demolition was going smoothly and he hoped to begin construction in two weeks and is waiting on final materials.
