lying-in-streetMADISONVILLE, Ky. (8/4/14) — After witnessing a Madisonville man lying in the intersection of Hopewell and Elm streets, Madisonville Police made an arrest Saturday, Aug. 2.

According to a Madisonville Police report, when officers made contact with Wesley Allan Mackay, 41, Madisonville, a strong odor of alcohol was detected along with the observation that he had slow and slurred speech and red, glassy eyes.

Mackay had difficulty maintaining a balance, and he advised officers that he had been drinking all day, the report said.

An officer escorted Mackay into his residence and gave verbal warning to remain there. Minutes later Mackay returned back to the intersection of Hopewell and Elm streets. Due to the high volume of traffic and Mackay’s level of intoxication, officers feared he would be struck by a vehicle, the report said.

Mackay was charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place, first and second offense.
