ops4 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (10/17/13) - The Owensboro Public School Board of Education met Thursday morning to discuss an application for a ‘Districts of Innovation’ grant from the Kentucky Department of Education to be used for the proposed new career and technical school.

The application would state that the school would make many positive changes for the district including attendance becoming more flexible with an off-site facility keeping more kids enrolled in schools until the they are 18-years old. The grant would fund the hiring of certified teachers that are trained in technical courses, and would also fund the enrollment of students, maximizing learning potential.

Currently, a location of the school is not listed on the grant application, because board members are not sure of the timeline of the project. Superintendent Nick Brake stated that there is a “very strong possibility” that next year will be a planning year for the school, but changes in current technical and career-ready programs could most likely be seen in the next school year.

The ’Districts of Innovation’ grant application is set to be approved at the OPS Board of Education Meeting on Oct. 24. If the application is approved, the district will find out if they received the grant by the end of the school year.
