Owensboro Celebrates Veteran’s Day

OWENSBORO, KY (11-7-2011) - The Owensboro-Daviess County’s annual Veteran’s Day Parade was held Saturday, November 5th, at 2:00 p.m.

The crowd that lined the sidewalks down 2nd Street in Owensboro was smaller than it has been in past years, but showed that Owensboro supports those in the community who have served. This support was also seen at the funeral of PFC. Brandon Mullins, a native of Owensboro and Apollo High School graduate, whose death was the result of an IED in early August.

The yearly event began in 1918 as an annual tradition, but was canceled in the 1980s due to lack in interest in the Owensboro area. The parade, as it is seen today, has been staged for almost 25 years.
