Western KY (12/3/12) — Kentucky State Police (KSP) Post 2 is currently having the district’s Third Annual Cram the Cruiser Event. Cram the Cruiser started on November 12 and is running through December 14.

Post 2 is serving as a collection site for food donations of non-perishable items to be distributed to district shelters, churches, and food banks during the holiday season. The Post 2 District includes seven counties in Western Kentucky, including Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Crittenden, Caldwell, Christian, Todd, and Webster.

KSP Public Affairs Officer Trooper Stu Recke gave details to SurfKY News about the month-long event, which began as a directive from Frankfort to aid Kentucky relief efforts in feeding citizens who are struggling to afford groceries this time of year.

Every KSP Post in the state is participating in the event; however, Post 2 is located directly off of the Western KY Parkway, central to all of the counties it serves. There is a KSP cruiser representing Cram the Cruiser parked at Jordan and Sons Barber Shop on West Depot Street in Greenville, as the shop is serving as an additional collection site.

Recke and another trooper will be bringing a cruiser to Madisonville Market Place on Friday, December 7th to collect donations for the event as well. The troopers will have the cruiser at Market Place from 2:00 to 6:00 PM Friday, collecting conveniently from shoppers already there to purchase their own groceries. They’re accepting any donations of non-perishable food items, including cake and brownie mixes, pasta noodles, sauce, soups, canned goods, etc.
