Local Fire Depts. Mourn Loss of Fellow Firefighter in Mining Incident

HOPKINS COUNTY, KY (11/2/11) - A Morton’s Gap and White Plains volunteer firefighter, 23-year-old Samual Lindsey, passed away Friday October 28, 2011 after becoming trapped when a wall collapsed at the Armstrong Coal Company’s Equality Mine, located in Centertown, Kentucky. Samual leaves behind his wife Misty and son Aiden.

Samual was a loving husband and father, an asset to the fire service and a wonderful friend to those blessed to have known him. His untimely passing is a great tragedy that has affected a large portion of the communities surrounding him.

Morton’s Gap Volunteer Fire Department was in process of having a fundraiser for the department before the accident. Currently, they have decided to complete the fund raiser and donate all proceeds to the Lindsey family to assist in this time of need. Anyone wishing to purchase fundraiser tickets or make a donation to the family can contact a Morton’s Gap or White Plains firefighter to do so.

The White Plains Volunteer Fire Department would like to extend their deepest condolences to the Lindsey family in this time of mourning. Samual Lindsey, Unit 1124, will be greatly missed, but not forgotten.

Visitation and burial arrangements are as follows:

Harris Funeral Home, Madisonville
Visitation: Wednesday November 2, 3 to 7 PM
Thursday November 3, 11 AM to 1 PM
Funeral Service: Thursday November 3, 1 PM

Any fire department wishing to participate please contact Jason Eli.
