God's Great Outdoor Adventures: Fishing in December

squirrel sportsKENTUCKY (12/5/12) - Hello again, folks! I hope you are having a blessed week.

We have had some beautiful weather for this time of year. If the weather doesn't get colder, the insects will be terrible this summer. A lot of folks have been taking advantage of the nice weather by enjoying some fishing. Why not? The deer are only moving at night, and the ducks haven't started coming our way. It is too hot for walking and rabbit hunting so why not grab a fishing pole?

They are catching a lot of hybrid Stripes and Sauger by the dam at Calhoun. I came through the other day on my way to the cattle auction and noticed several boats fishing.

The temperatures are supposed to drop some this week. The best times to fish during the winter days are during the times when you get a couple of warmer days. By the second and third days of the warm snap, the fishing action really heats-up. The fish are more active and feed during these times. The fish don't bite as aggressively during the cooler months. You will have to reel slow, and as you feel a slight tug, set the hook.

Spinner baits with larger blades are excellent for catching Bass this time of year. The bigger blades help slow the speed of the lure as it breaks through the water.

Go out and enjoy the beauty that God created, and catch a nice wall-hanger!

Until next time, God bless, and be safe.
