Warford Honored by ESPN.com; Foster by College Football News

UK Football v4 300LEXINGTON, KY (12/11/12) – For the fourth time in the last week, senior offensive lineman Larry Warford has been honored as an All-Southeastern Conference performer after ESPN.com selected Warford first-team All-SEC on Monday.

This is the first time Warford has earned the honor from ESPN.com. Last week, Warford was named second-team All-SEC by the Associated Press, league coaches and CollegeSportsMadness.com. Fellow SEC linemen that were honored by ESPN.com were Texas A&M juniors Luke Joeckel, who won the Outland Trophy, and Jake Matthews, along with Alabama seniors Barrett Jones, who won the Rimington Trophy, and Chance Warmack.

Warford received high praise throughout the season from the UK coaching staff for playing with amazing skill up front. He did not allow a quarterback sack all year, grading at 90.3 percent for the season and totaling 48 knockdown blocks.

Warford, who came to UK from Richmond, Ky., ended his UK career having played in 47 games with 37 consecutive starts. The senior was named SEC Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week after UK’s win over Kent State, handling blocking responsibilities on KSU’s star lineman Roosevelt Nix. In the game, Warford collected eight knockdown blocks and graded out at 91.7 percent.

Warford began the season on the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Trophy Watch Lists, while he was chosen as a first-team midseason All-SEC selection by Phil Steele’s College Football. Warford led the UK offensive line being named game captain five times throughout the season. Warford helped UK tailbacks earn 4.9 yards per carry during the season, including rushing for 342 yards against Samford.

Foster Named Second-Team Freshman All-America by College Football News: Kentucky true freshman punter Landon Foster continues to earn national praise for his impressive season. This time, Foster has been named a second-team Freshman All-America by College Football News.

The native of Franklin, Tenn., had a fantastic first season with the Wildcats, ranking 27th nationally in punting and eighth in the conference with a season average of 42.9 yards per punt. Foster is fourth among freshmen nationally in punting. Overall, Foster launched 61 punts this season for 2,617 yards and 13 punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. The freshman only had three touchbacks on the year, while his longest punt of the season was a 58-yarder against Arkansas. Foster averaged a staggering 50.7 yards per punt in the win over Kent State, while he hit at least one punt over 50 yards in nine of UK’s 12 games.

Foster, who became the first UK punter ever to be selected to the SEC All-Freshman Team, was the first UK player to earn first-team Freshman All-America honors from Scout.com and the first kicker to earn such honors by any organization last week.

During the season, Foster was named Honorable Mention Punter of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards four times and was selected to the National Freshman Performer of the Year Watch List by the CFPA.
