Racers baseb2 300MURRAY, Ky. (5/6/13) – Murray State tried for another ninth-inning comeback Sunday afternoon, but came up on the short end as Southeast Missouri took the series finale, 7-4, at Reagan Field.

The Redhawks (22-27, 13-14 OVC) got the scoring going in the fourth inning as Clayton Evans delivered a two-run single up the middle.

The Breds (20-28, 8-16 OVC) got a run back in the home-half of the inning as Mike Kozlowski drew a walk and Dylan Wheeler followed with a single through the left side. Rick Linton put down a sacrifice bunt that was misplayed to load the bases with no outs. But, the Breds only managed to get one run on a double-play groundout.

SEMO extended its lead by plating give runs over the next two innings. Matt Tellor had the big hit in the fifth as he delivered a two-run double into the gap in right center. In the sixth, a wild pitch scored two runners, before Dalton Hewitt drove in a run with a single to right field.

MSU tried to get back in the game in the bottom of the sixth as Wheeler doubled off the bag at first and Dalton West was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Both runners moved up on a wild pitch, before a slow roller to short from Taylor Mathews scored Wheeler from third.

The Breds did not go quietly in the ninth as Paul Ritzheimer drew a leadoff walk and went to third on Ty Stetson’s double to left center. With two outs, Kozlowski delivered a two-run singled through the left side.

Cashtyn DeLeeuw (3-2) took the loss after allowing seven runs on seven hits over three innings. Tony Zerrusen (1-0) picked up the victory after allowing one run on three hits over four innings.

The Breds will take a week off for finals before return to action May 10 as they open a three-game series at Belmont. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
