UK Soccer v2 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (10/8/13) – University of Kentucky women’s soccer player Kelli Hubly was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com National Team of the Week after scoring three points on Friday night at Mississippi State with a goal and an assist in the 3-1 win over the Bulldogs.

Hubly scored her first goal of the season on Friday night, striking in the 49th minute to put Kentucky up 2-0 at the time, and her goal would be the eventual game-winning goal of the match. Hubly also had an assist on Friday night, as she provided the initial service to Caitlin Landis, who buried the game’s opening goal in the 37th minute. It was her second assist in as many games.

The Elk Grove, Ill., native started the season as a forward, where she played her entire career, scoring the second-most goals on the team in 2012. After the 0-0 draw with Utah, head coach Jon Lipsitz along with his staff moved Hubly to the back line, where she has played every minute since at right back.

Hubly has now recorded a point in two of the last three games, as she also assisted on the game-winning goal in Kentucky’s 1-0 win over No. 19 Georgia back on Sept. 29 in Lexington.

This is the second time in Hubly’s career that she has been named to the National Team of the Week, as she also received the honor back on Nov. 13, 2012, when she scored the game-winning goal against UT Martin three minutes into overtime in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.

Kentucky returns to action on Friday night in Lexington, as the Wildcats will face off against the Tennessee Lady Vols at 7:30 p.m. ET. Kentucky is currently in a tie for second on the Southeastern Conference table, with 12 points through the first five conference matches of the year.
