uk tennis women 300LEXINGTON, Ky. (10/23/13) - University of Kentucky sophomore women’s tennis player Nadia Ravita fell just short of the main draw singles title at the USTA/ITA Regionals in Memphis, Tenn. Tuesday in the women’s singles final of the five day tournament.

Ravita, who is ranked No. 26 in the nation and was the top seed in the tournament, had a tough route to the finals. In a challenging match against Vanderbilt’s Georgina Sellyn, Ravita fell in the first set, 6-2 before she tried to make a comeback in the second but was defeated 6-3.

It was Ravita’s fourth straight match against a Vanderbilt player at the ITA Regionals. All four of her opponents were seeded in the regional, with Sellyn seeded the highest at No. 3. Ravita finished the weekend with a 5-1 record.

The second-place finish was the highest finish for a UK team since 2007. Last season, the ITA Regionals ended for the Wildcats in the singles round of 16 and in the doubles quarterfinals.

Kentucky will return to action next Friday, Oct. 25 for the Tennessee Fall Invite.
