LEXINGTON, Ky. (8/13/14) — For the second consecutive season, the Kentucky volleyball team was selected to finish second in the Southeastern Conference and junior Morgan Bergren was named to the Preseason All-SEC team, as voted upon by the league’s head coaches.
A setter from Muncie, Ind., Bergren started all 31 matches for the Wildcats in 2013 and led the team with 1,215 assists. She was second on the team with 24 service aces to go along with 192 digs, 130 kills and 77 blocks.
After she saw action in just nine matches as a freshman, Bergren tallied 40 or more assists 13 times as a sophomore, highlighted by a career-best 66 assists along with 11 digs in a five-set win over LSU. In the NCAA Tournament’s first round, she had 43 assists along with five kills to hit .400 in UK’s win over Duquesne.
The Wildcats are coming off a school-record ninth consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament and finished third in the conference in 2013. UK garnered 129 points in the 2014 Preseason Coaches’ Poll, while Florida was voted to win the league with 144 points. Missouri was third with 114 points and LSU fourth with 105 points.
