HOPKINS COUNTY, KY (12/8/11)—At approximately 2:30pm on Thursday, December 8th, two brothers living in the Nebo/Beulah area were involved in an altercation that eventually led to a shooting arrest.
After responding to the incident, members of the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department learned that brothers Richard Brinkley, 22, and Zachary Brinkley, 21, both of which are current residents of 5135 Rabbit Ridge Road in the Nebo/Beulah area, had gotten into a verbal altercation in regard to a collection of firewood on the property.
Soon after, it is believed that Zachary entered the residence and retrieved a shotgun, which he then used to strike Richard. Soon after, it was reported that Zachary fired a shot into the air from the firearm.
As the argument escalated, detectives with the HCSD say that Richard attempted to leave the residence in his vehicle. However, it was soon after that Zachary pulled out another firearm—a .22 caliber pistol—and fired a single shot through Richard’s driver’s side window. The bullet then entered Richard’s abdomen.
From there, the father of the two men transported Richard to the Regional Medical Center where he has received treatment for his injuries. At this time, it is believed that his injuries were not life threatening.
After recovering the weapon used in the shooting from the residence, members of the HCSD arrested Zachary on one count of Assault in the 1st Degree. At this time, Zachary is lodged in the Hopkins County Jail.
