Massive Drug Sting Operation in Muhlenberg County

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, Ky. (4/23/13) – Numerous law enforcement agencies got an early start Tuesday morning in a drug sweep that resulted in countywide arrests throughout the Muhlenberg area.

The organized effort that began around 6:00 AM included The Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department, The Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force, Kentucky State Police, the Central City and Greenville Police Departments. This past week, Detective Troy Gibson had secured 24 warrants as a result of his investigation.

Kimberly Hudson, 230 Brick St. Graham, trafficking in a controlled substance, 1st.degree

Joshua Evitts, 550 Jarvis Rd Greenville, trafficking in a controlled substance, 2nd degree

Sklyer Shanks, Hwy. 70 w. trafficking in a controlled substance, 1st.degree, meth

Julia Hawkins, 25 Jade Center, Greenville, trafficking in a controlled substance, 2nd.degree

Fieldon Vincent trafficking in a controlled substance, 2nd.degree

Ricky Groves, 25 Jade, Lot 6 Greenville, trafficking in a controlled substance, 1st.degree, meth, trafficking in a controlled substance, 2nd degree

Brad Saulsbury, 219 Park Street, Central City, trafficking in a controlled substance, 1st.degree

Justin Holland, 1789 Sunnyside Road, Central City, Trafficking in a Legend Drug

Chip Geary, 2552 Paradise Road Central City, and possession of a controlled substance 1st degree

Stewart Webster, 161 Ford Lane, Graham, possession of drug paraphernalia

Jeana Blue, 1560 St. Rt. 1379 Central City, trafficking in a controlled substance, 1st.degree, meth

Terrance Benson, 412 E. Main Cross, Greenville, trafficking controlled substance, 2nd degree

Barry Piper, 145 ½ Daviess Circle, South Carrolton, trafficking in a controlled substance, 1st.degree and trafficking in less than 8 ounces of marijuana

Whitney Barber, 800 Hwy 2107, trafficking in a controlled substance, 2nd degree, unlawful possession of meth precursor and possession of controlled substance 3rd degree

“The sting has been highly successful and, although street level dealers were targeted, not all of the arrest involved trafficking,” said Sheriff Curtis McGehee.

Lori Blakeley, Director of the Pennyrile Narcotics Task Force, told Surfky News that today's roundup concentrated on Muhlenberg County only.

"The cases were made here in Muhlenberg County, and were a joint effort between the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department and the task force. We are finding anything from methamphetamine to prescription medication, and we're still not sure at this time what other charges could be pending." Blakeley explained.

Blakeley added that even with the combined efforts of law enforcement and concerned citizens, the number of repeat drug offenders shows little sign of slowing down in the county.

"I have been with the task force for going on 24 years now, and it does seem like it's a revolving door at times. We see generations of the same families coming through." Blakeley said.

Sheriff Curtis McGehee and Blakeley both voiced concern over the fact that what is known as "one-step meth labs" are an ever-growing problem.

"The last two meth labs we've discovered just in the past week were the small scale labs. These are call 'Shake and Bake' labs." McGehee noted.

These allow those involved to produce meth faster, in a smaller container.

Blakeley emphasized that the public can continue to help in the fight against drugs by being aware of neighbors who have a large number of people in and out of their residence for a very short amount of time.

To anonymously report any type of suspected illegal drug activity, citizens can call 1-800-DOPETIP. The hotline is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
