MadFlavor Lights Up County’s Taste


 

MADISONVILLE, Ky. (6/20/13) – The warm air in downtown Madisonville over the weekend was filled with acoustic and electric waves of sound accompanied by aromas of many favorite summer treats.

Following the Friday Night Live street fair that Madisonville hosts every year during the summer months was a first of what tentatively will be another annual attraction for Hopkins Co. The first Mad Flavor Arts and Music Fest took over the Hopkins Co. Fair Grounds on Saturday, June 15, hosting over 12 hours of non-stop live music, arts, crafts, food, beer and wine vending, children's activities and local business orientations and promotions.
 
All of the participants, volunteers, vendors and artists joined together at the Ballard Convention Center and Fair Grounds on E. Arch St. to support the common interests of local economic growth and art appreciation in the area.
 
Raising over $4,000 from ticket sales, Mat Pentecost, who envisioned and ultimately brought the fest to life, said he considers it "A huge success."
 
All of the proceeds from ticket sales went to local benefit as well. The American Red Cross Midwest Ky. Chapter located on S. Main St. In Madisonville is using the money for a local disaster relief fund.
 
ARC Director Whitney Wardrip was grateful to the community for the support and enthusiastic about the festival. "Our local Red Cross chapter is amazed by the hard work and dedication that went into making the 1st Annual Mad Flavor Fest such a huge success! We were able to raise $4,000, which will all be put right back into Hopkins County for local disaster relief efforts. We greatly appreciate being the recipient of the festival's proceeds and had a wonderful time working with the planning committee."
 
The volunteer committee for the event is already collaborating on next year's fest, working out the kinks to ensure next year brings even more success for the community. The team is taking suggestions from the citizens of Hopkins Co. and Western Ky. and brainstorming ideas for adjustments.

Pentecost isn't looking back on the event with anything but forward thinking. In a laid back satisfied tone he fairly concluded, "No regrets, no second guessing, just lessons learned and enjoying old friends. Thank you Madisonville."
