muhl school board 300POWDERLY, Ky. (3/18/14) – The Muhlenberg County Board of Education recognized the achievements of the members of the Muhlenberg North Middle School Junior Beta Club at a special called meeting Monday, March 17.

In recent statewide competition the MNMS Junior Beta Club won numerous awards.
 
Those recognized included Meredith Mayes, voted the overall winner in competition for the honor of becoming the Kentucky Junior Beta Club state reporter.

Gail Johnson, Public Relations Director for the board of education, noted that Mayes represents the fifth MNMS student in a row to be chosen as the club's state reporter. Mayes also won first place in the category of campaign speech. Mayes is the daughter of Amy and Greg Luttrell of Central City, and Jerry Mayes of Beaver Dam.

Other state award winners included Krysta House, who won first place in wreath-making. House is the daughter of Kathryn Stanley of Central City.

Placing second in Social Studies was Brayden Lacefield. Lacefield is the son of Jason and Christy Lacefield of Central City.

Kaitlyn Duncan won second place in the category of Art. Duncan is the daughter of Daniel and Laurie Duncan of Central City.

MNMS placed third overall in Living Literature for their depiction of "The Great Gatsby."

Those participating in the presentation included Hunter Adler, Nathan Jarvis, Matt Thompson, Blakelynn Groves, Chelsea Barber, Madison Boothe, Hope Whitehouse and Kennedy Bunch.
