geo bee 300BENTON, Ky. (1/16/14) — Ben Samson, a seventh grade student at South Marshall Middle School, won the school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee on Wednesday, Jan. 15, and now has a chance at a $50,000 college scholarship. The school-level Bee, at which students answered oral questions on geography, was the first round of the 26th annual National Geographic Bee. Ben will now take a written test, and the students with the top 100 scores in Kentucky will participate in the State Bee in April. Our second place winner was 8th grader Madison Potempa, and the third place winner was 8th grader Donald Edleman.
