Police Report Issues with Citizens Wandering out on Eggners Ferry Bridge

bridge people redCADIZ, KY (1/30/12) – According to information provided by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC), police agencies are planning to issue citations to spectators who have made their way onto the US 68/KY Eggners Ferry Bridge.

KYTC Official Keith Todd has informed SurfKY News that highway officials warned the public to stay off the remainder of the bridge due to safety concerns.

At one point after the bridge collapse, the Coast Guard reported several hundred people out on the structure.

In hindsight, on Thursday night the cargo ship Delta Mariner struck one of the bridge spans, knocking the section into Kentucky Lake and wrapping steel and concrete across the bow of the ship. There were no fatalities during the impact
