Violent Head-On Collision Injures Two in Hopkins County

Stagecoach AccidentMADISONVILLE, Ky. (1/16/2013) – At approximately 11:30 this morning, two vehicles collided on State Route 1069 (Stagecoach Road) in Hopkins County. Medical Center Ambulance Service (MCAS), Kentucky State Police (KSP), Hanson Fire and Rescue, Hopkins County Sheriff’s Department, and Manitou Fire Department were all on the scene of the accident to assess and assist.

A teenage driver of a bronze Plymouth and a female driver and male passenger of a tan Ford Taurus were involved in the head-on accident. It is as yet unknown which party was at fault in the incident; however, the grandfather of the teen said that his grandson’s account was that the Taurus was sliding toward him, and he “didn’t know what to do.”

The Plymouth’s airbag was deployed, and the teen limped away from the crash to his grandfather’s truck. The two occupants of the Taurus were carried from the vehicle by MCAS and firefighters on stretchers to be transported to Baptist Health Madisonville, but both were conscious. The nature of their injuries is unknown at this time.

The accident heavily damaged the front ends of both vehicles and left debris and engine fluid covering the road. Two tow trucks arrived to carry away the vehicles as SurfKY News left the scene, and firefighters were preparing to clean the debris from the road.

It is unknown if slick road conditions contributed to the collision. Drivers are encouraged to use caution, as icy patches remain on some area roads. In addition, oils and other slick residues often come to the surface of blacktop following times of heavy precipitation, causing the roads to be slippery without warning.
