Third Annual Community Beautification

america bloom 300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (4/11/13) – It’s time to beautify our community again with the 3rd Annual America in Bloom (AIB) organized by the Madisonville Urban Forestry Committee and sponsored by Baptist Health, on April 20th 2013 at 10:00am. This event will be taking place at the Trover Wellness Park next to Baptist Health.

Founded back in 2001, AIB is a non-profit nationwide organization that promotes and teaches individuals by educating and encouraging the use of plants, trees, flowers, and other environmental enhancements.

“The plan is to plant 25 Redbud Trees that are currently in 3 gallon buckets along the trail. We also plan to do this every year until the path is filled with Redbud Trees,” stated Katie Williams, a Forester of Hopkins County. There will also be a seedling giveaway, which consist of 600 seedlings and 6 different species. These species include; Dogwood, Black Walnut, White Oak, Bald Cyprus, Hazelnut and Loblolly Pine. Baptist Health was kind enough to purchase these seedlings for the giveaway.

Williams also stated, “We are currently still looking for volunteers for this event. Those who are interested can come out at 10:00am and we will hand them a shovel and a bottle of water.”

For more information about the beautification project, 4-H, Farmer’s Market, or any other agricultural developments, contact the Hopkins Co. Co-operative Extension Office at (270) 821-3650.
