MUHLENBERG COUNTY, KY (10/18/12) - The Greater Muhlenberg Chamber of Commerce held its monthly meeting at the Greenville United Methodist Church, on Thursday, October 18th.
During the meeting, the chamber heard from guest speaker Larry Hayes, Secretary of the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development, the agency that directs the state’s economic development efforts.
Secretary Hayes spoke to the chamber about topics concerning economic development in the area. Hayes recalled visiting the Muhlenberg County area during the ice storm of 2009. He commended the citizens of Muhlenberg County for their strong "spirit" and "sense of community." Hayes also stated that the community, instead of complaining and feeling victimized, took their futures into their own hands.
Hayes praised several of the local efforts of Muhlenberg County to become a Work Ready Community in order to attract industry to the area. He also noted the strides being made in the areas of parks and recreation, education and infrastructure.
"When a company comes to the area, you have one shot to impress," Hayes stated. When companies consider locating in an area, among their many interests and concerns include the future of their long-term investment and the willingness of the community to be their partners.
