Fans Remember the Birthday of Legend, Merle Travis

MUHLENBERG COUNTY, KY (11/16/11) - The general public is welcome to an exciting event, celebrating Thumbpicking Legend, Merle Travis.  

Merle Travis was born on Nov. 29, 1917, in Rosewood, Kentucky (South of Greenville). Travis later went on to be a successful country singer and picker.

On Saturday, Nov. 19, at the Merle Travis Center, a Birthday Celebration and Beef Stew Supper will be held.

The doors open for this event at 9 AM. National Thumbpickers Hall of Fame members will meet for the Annual Business Meeting at 10 AM.

At noon, an Open Jam Session, featuring some of Thumbpicking's finest will take place.

The beef stew supper will begin at 5 PM, followed by an evening concert at 7 PM.

Paradise Park, located next to the Merle Travis Center, will be open all day. The original birthhome of Merle Travis is contained within the park, alongside several other historic buildings.

Events throughout the day are free of charge. There will be a $10 admission charge per individual over 16 year old, for the evening concert.

The Merle Travis Center is located at 750 Cleaton Road, in Powderly.
