firereports2011new c 300MADISONVILLE, Ky. (1/17/13) – On Wednesday, January 16, the Madisonville Fire Department (MFD) reported two instances of activity within the Madisonville city limits.

At approximately 12:18 AM, MFD received an alert for suspected illegal burning in the area of Cottonwood Loop. Fire crew arrived on scene to find a small brush pile burning. The fire was located about 250 ft. behind Cottonwood Apts. Contact was made with persons overseeing the burn, who produced a burn permit. All safety measures were met concerning the burning of brush. Scene was deemed safe, fire unit returned to station.

At approximately 11:17 PM, MFD received an alert from Central Dispatch for a house filled with smoke at 314 Barnett Blvd. Firefighters arrived on scene to find a single story, single family dwelling with a moderate amount of smoke inside of structure. Fire crews were advised by occupant that the heating unit located outside on the "C" side of the house had been on fire. The occupant advised firemen that a dry chemical extinguisher had been used to put out visible flames. Electric power to unit had been shut off by occupant. Fire crews removed an access panel on unit to search for fire extension inside unit and found melted wiring. When firefighters checked crawl space they found a small fire which was extinguished. The structure was ventilated to remove smoke in house as well as the crawl space. Overhaul was performed, in which charred flexible duct work and insulation was removed from the structure. The scene was deemed safe. Owner secured property and all units returned to station.
