Local Angler Wins over $600 in Bluegill Tournament

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (7/10/13) – The Winding Creek Bait and Tackle sponsored a Bluegill Bass Tournament from May 1st – July 4th. Since this is prime Bluegill season, and the request from the customers, Winding Creek Bait and Tackle put together a tournament just for this occasion. It was a $5.oo entry fee and with all the money collected and the winner of the fish that weighed the most won the money pot.

Participants from all around were able to enter this tournament with a small entry fee paid before the fish were caught and kept alive for the weigh-in. However, the contest did not include Hybrid Bluegills. All fish were weighed in at the store on the day they were caught and the participants had the option of using either live or artificial bait.

This year’s winner of the Bluegill Tournament was Hopkins County native Skylar Ipock. He won $655.00 with a 1lb 7 ounce Bluegill.

“I figured I would enter, it was only five dollars, if I lost I lost. If I won it… pretty good win. I was out at Lake Barkley catching some fish and playing around with a buddy. I put a little white grub on too see what I could do. All of a sudden I caught that big one… 1lb 7 ounces,” stated Ipock. “After that I threw it in a bucket with some water and kept throwing water in there to keep it from flopping. As long as it stayed alive for the tournament I didn’t care.”

SurfKY News would like to congratulate Skylar and would like to thank Winding Creek Bait and Tackle for hosting this public event.
