KSPPA Holds Successful 'Shop with a Trooper'

BEAVER DAM, Ky. (12/23/13) - The Kentucky State Police Professional Association (KSPPA) conducted its annual “Shop with a Trooper” program Saturday, Dec. 21. This program is designed to assist underprivileged children during the Christmas season. It also establishes a great rapport with area law enforcement personnel.

184 children, their families, KSP troopers, KSP telecommunicators, Ohio County Sheriff deputies, Beaver Dam and Centertown Police officers all met at the Beaver Dam Wal-Mart to shop. The first group started at 8 a.m.

Many of the excited children’s shopping lists consisted of various toys; however, a large percentage did restock with new backpacks, coats, pants, shirts, shoes, hats and gloves. The children also were surprised when Santa Claus made an appearance during check-out.

The Kentucky State Police, KSPPA and the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the following for making this year’s program such a success: Wal-Mart of Beaver Dam; Denny’s Restaurant; O.C. Café and all those who wished to remain anonymous.

A special thanks to Ashby Trucking Company of Beaver Dam. Despite of the recent decline of the area coal industry, Ashby Trucking, who primarily transports coal, has maintained its community commitment by donating over one-third of the total donations generated for this endeavor. Over $15,000 was spent on area underprivileged boys and girls in Ohio, Daviess and Henderson counties.
