There will be a shift for US 60 Eastbound traffic at mile point 18.7 near the Kentucky 54 Interchange. US 60 eastbound traffic will be moved onto a section of the new extension, then travel along the Kentucky 603/Pleasant Valley Road Connector.
US 60 Eastbound Traffic will then use the Kentucky 603/Pleasant Valley Road Connector to return to the existing US 60 Eastbound lanes. This generally follows the same route as Kentucky 54 ramp traffic to US 60 eastbound in recent weeks.
Signs, Variable Message Boards and other traffic control devices will be used to aid traffic in this movement.
Additionally, Pleasant Valley Road will be closed from the intersection with Hayden Road to the US 60 Exit Ramp at Kentucky 603. This is to allow uninterrupted movement of US 60 Eastbound traffic onto Kentucky 603.
This traffic shift and detour is expected to be implemented sometime on the morning of Saturday, July 12, 2014.
Motorists traveling US 60 in this area should be alert for crews preparing and placing traffic control equipment and structures as the shift approaches. Motorists should also be alert for changes in traffic flow created by this new long-term detour configuration.
Eastbound US 60 traffic will be restricted to one lane along this detour.
Westbound US 60 traffic will be restricted to one lane along the section between the Kentucky 603/Pleasant Valley Road Connector and the Kentucky 54 interchange. The lane restrictions and the additional 1.6 miles of travel with turns for eastbound motorists may create traffic delays, particularly during peak travel periods.
About 18,000 vehicles normally travel this section of US 60/The Wendell Ford Expressway in an average day.
This traffic shift is to allow construction of connections between the existing roadway and the new roadway at the west end of the US 60 Extension Project.
Yager Materials is the prime contractor on both phases of the $72.9 million US 60 Extension. The contractor has indicated that with good weather during this construction season traffic could be moved to the extension late this year with a variety of finish work continuing into 2015.The new 4-lane highway is aimed at providing improved connectivity between Owensboro and the William Natcher Bridge which carries traffic along US 231 to Interstate 64 in Indiana.
